In the quaint southern town of Hillsborough, there is a chocolate shop. It is divine.
Matthew, the creator and owner of Matthew’s Chocolates, infuses his treats with more than just rich chocolate.
Over the years, Matthew has dabbled in pottery, wood carving, the incense business, and culinary school. His true desire was creating indulgent treats for friends and family.
Matthew’s many talents smoothly blended into his current passion, chocolate art.
Visual, gustatory, and olfactory senses are arroused with each bite.
Matthew layers and infuses flavors such as rose, ylang ylang, lavender, neroli, peppermint, ginger, basil, and the most commonly loved fragrance in the world, vanilla.
Can a chocolate shop be dreamy? Matthew’s is.
Is it the aroma of freshly brewed hot chocolate?
Or….is it that first visual as you walk through the door, the poster of the Johnny Depp movie, Chocolat. Yum.
Whether you enjoy one of his herbal teas, or his hot chocolate concoctions, a warm cardomon drink, a homemade cookie or brownie, or a truffle or two, this is the spot to step away from the busy world outside.
Your very first bite will slow you down. Each bite thereafter, will take over all of your practical senses.
I need not remind you of the health benefits of cacao. The endorphin release goes without saying.
And imagine this – Matthew revealed that in his 8 years of business, 3 people have requested that his chocolates be their last parting flavor. I am not wishing death on you, however….
Choose your indulgences wisely. Remember the 80/20 rule. Eat well and clean 80% of the time and the other 20%, indulge if you must.
Just step into Matthew’s and see for yourself. It is chocolate season, after all. Valentine or not, love abounds.
And my Valentine’s message remains the same, year after year.
Be a force of love in your corner of the world! ❤️

Thank you so much for introducing me to Matthew’s Chocolates. Meeting you last week for tea and a chocolate chip, pecan cookie was a delicious idea! I plan to be a ‘regular’!
Ha…My pleasure, Cathy! Let’s meet there again soon!

Next time you are here!!!
Great blog, Judy.
Thanks so much, Karen! Wish you lived close by so we could meet there! ?
Ah… sounds great. My favorite is Monica’s Chocolates in Lubec, Maine. We discovered her years ago when on vacation. I order as much as I can for gifts. She has a great story too.
Nice, Lisa! I will have to look it up. Nothing like a good chocolate shop in your life! ?
