We have so many choices now. I often wonder why. Is it no wonder that we are confused about what is healthy? I wish we could be content with less of a choice, and more with what is good for us.
To keep summer simple and healthy, why not take advantage of all the fresh goodies that are available and eat those first before grabbing for a box of something.
You have heard the skinny. Preservatives and additives and loss of nutritional value, in a nutshell, are what you consume when eating processed foods or foods from a box.
The other day, out of curiosity, I counted the number of boxed cereal options at the grocery store. I stopped at 50. Wow.
Before you grab for your usual dry cereal, try something fresher.
Have fruit with yogurt and nuts, granola, a smoothie, an omelette, toast and avocado, oatmeal and fruit, or even leftovers from dinner!
I recently saw a very creative idea for a breakfast dish. Cut an avocado in half, remove the pit (and a bit of the avocado to make a hole), crack an egg in to each half, throw on some of your favorite cheese, and bake for 15 minutes or so, until egg is cooked as desired. Yum!!
Try it! Keep it simple and real.
Great news.…I heard, only yesterday, that General Mills is going to recreate their cereal recipes by removing artificial ingredients and dyes and replacing them with natural ingredients. A slow shift is indeed happening!
Toast, advocado and an egg for breakfast…YUMMMM!!!
We eat that a lot too! In the summer it is nice to add a fresh tomato to the dish.
A step in the right direction for General Mills! I agree that a slow shift is happening! I’m seeing it in the grocery stores too! YEA!
Lynne, I guess it is like all change, very slow. But it is super encouraging!
