Shaking my Inner Brazilian……

As many of you know, I grew up in Brazil, from age 9-18.

There are so many things I miss.

Dancing in the streets during Carnival is one.

Imagine walking out your front door anytime of day and joining the hoards of happy people dancing in the streets.

Not a care in the world. Bills to pay, aches and pains, worries, all left at the front door.

Days of dancing and singing and letting go.

Well, when I came across this video, it took me back to my samba days.

My heart skipped a beat!

The author explains the idea of shaking (Qoya):

Qoya is based on the idea through movement, we remember. We remember our essence is wise, wild and free. Using movement as metaphor and infusing movement with meaning, the words wise, wild, and free are not only archetypical energies that we all possess, but these words also draw reference to the movement forms we practice.
Through movement, we remember those things that can never be put in to words. When you see a sunset, and your whole body exhales. When you feel the thrill of adventure as you get in your car and hit the open road. When you get caught up in the contagious laughter of a child………

Brazilians not only have the spirit but they surely have the art of shaking down pat!

No need to fly to Rio.

I suggest you check out this video and shake the winter out of your system!

Get the kinks out and loosen up!

Cheers and sunshine to you!

  1. FABULOUS!!!!!!!! I TOO MISS BRASIL, THE HAPPINESS AND THE EXPRESSION OF ABANDONMENT OF ALL THE DIFFICULTIES OF LIFE AS THE DANCE IN THE STREETS. BRASILIANS ARE HAPPY PEOPLE AND THE
MORE PROBLEMS THEY HAVE THE MORE THAT DANCE IS IMPORTANT! PROBABLY WHY IT IS THE POORER OF THE POPULATION WHO ENJOY CARNIVAL THE MOST!
