More Immune Boosting to Your Rescue!

To continue on my winter wellness theme, to keep you strong and healthy and ready to fight seasonal viruses, I would like to suggest…..

greens and more greens!

Eat and drink them. Fresh or cooked. Roasted works too.

Kale, spinach, Swiss chard, bok choy, turnip greens…..

Dr. Frank Lipman (a pioneer in functional and integrative medicine) explains why:

The more dark, leafy greens you can work into your diet, the better. All that good green stuff is filled with fiber, which is exactly what your good gut bacteria love to feast on. And, when our good bacteria are well-fed, they’re armed and fortified to help keep your immunity high. Greens will also supply you with energy-boosting phytonutrients so you can power through the day without a caffeine or sugar drip. Add fresh leafy greens to breakfast, lunch and dinner….

Scientific research shows that 80% of your immune system resides in your digestive track. So it only makes sense to keep your tummy happy and healthy.

If you don’t feel the love for greens, sneak them in somehow. Add them to soups, stews, salads, vegetable medleys, and casseroles.

How do I get my greens? In a smoothie 5 days out of 7.

Here is an easy recipe from OldWorldOrganicNutrition to get you green and healthy:

Energy Green Smoothie

-1 ½ cups of coconut water or dairy-free milk
-1 cup of kale or spinach
-1 handful parsley
-1 green apple
-1 teaspoon ground almonds
-½ cup fresh blueberries
-1 tablespoon raw cacao
-1 tablespoon coconut oil

There are so many good smoothie recipes out there. The sky is the limit. Just throw it all in your blender and make sure you add some greens.

If you need any suggestions, just ask. I love smoothie talk and chatting about greens!

  1. Ugh!! Kale (Yuck) But love, love, love spinach in any and every way – cooked and raw. Don’t forget the favorites : broccoli, asparagus, and green beans (great sauted with almonds in olive oil and a little
garlic). Not “leafy” but green and fibrous and g-o-o-d (yum).

Question comes to mind, what about olives and artichokes?. I’ve to understand terrific digestive properties and good fiber But hut high in calories (uh oh)
