I admit, I have a travel bug.
Near or far, I love to explore new places.
We were fortunate to travel to Eastern Europe last month. Aside from the sights, museums, and amazing music, our trips are culinary excursions as well.
I do research and ask locals for favorite dining venues. By the end of our stay we inevitably have a favorite restaurant.
Oliva Nera in Prague was one such place. Not only was the food out of this world, the waiters charming and attentive, but the after dinner mint tea hit the spot!
As it turns out, we found it on every menu. Freshly made mint tea. Wow.
I came home from our trip anxious to brew some mint tea. It is easy. Take a handful of fresh mint and throw it in to a pot of water and simmer for only a few minutes. Turn off the stove and let it sit for a few more minutes. Add honey and a good squeeze of lemon. Adjust the ingredients to your taste. I loved the little lemon gadget that comes with the tea.
It is no wonder it is on the menu everywhere. Mint is an effective palate cleanser, breath freshener, and it promotes digestion. Drinking a warm cup of mint tea can soothe your stomach in cases of indigestion or bloating or when you just feel sick to your stomach.
And, if you have a tendency towards motion sickness when traveling by plane or boat or even driving along winding mountain roads, the menthol oil derived from the mint can be very soothing for nausea and motion sickness.
Maybe serving fresh mint tea could catch on in our restaurants!
How about making some after dinner tonight?

I was recently in Prague and found my breakfast tea excellent. They know how to get the water really hot–the key to good tea.But I missed the mint tea. I was too busy drinking the homemade lemonade, which I thought had somewhat of an odd flavor but was fun.
Loved seeing your photos!
Fun! Every tea I had there was perfect. Love it in your own teapot. We must try now that we are home! I never tried the lemonade though….
I love mint tea. I have had it in some restaurants in NYC- most the Middle East type places. Easy to make- though I confess I buy the tea bags!
Oh fun! I have never seen fresh in restaurants but I am not surprised in NYC. Yes, tea bags can be easier!
