Eat Real Food!

peppersWhat if I told you that this would be my first and last blog post? I think that would be a bit dramatic…..so I plan to keep posting!

I can, however, summarize my number one step to better health in one sentence. From my course of studies at The Institute for Integrative Nutrition and with all of my own personal trials and research, I can reduce my main recommendation to one key point.

Drum roll……it is so simple but oh so hard…..just EAT REAL FOOD!

photo4That’s it! Eat real, unadulterated, from the earth, cooked or raw, real food.

Real food is what our bodies are meant to process and what our bodies excel at processing.

Processed foods eaten only very occasionally will not affect us terribly, but over a lifetime, our bodies will start to moan and groan and heavily complain.

photo3I am sure you have heard the buzz about inflammation? Yes, as Dr. Barry Sears so well explains, our bodies and organs with inflammation catch fire. Then, the chronic problems begin.

So start in a simple way. In the afternoon, instead of grabbing for a chip or cookie to get that late afternoon boost, eat a carrot or an apple. Even high quality, dark chocolate is a great option. Any takers?

photo5Instead of boxed cereals in the morning make some delicious oatmeal. Add to it whatever suits you….blueberries, cinnamon and nutmeg, flax or chia seeds, pumpkin puree, or nuts.

I promise, if you start to replace processed foods slowly and listen to your body, your cravings will shift over time.

It is not bad news. It is GREAT news. Look at the myriad of colors in these fruits and veggies that can nourish all the cells of your body! They will make you feel healthier and more vibrant.

Try it and share!

  1. And real food doesn’t leave you hungry two hours later. This is such a “duh” concept…but boy how humans have gotten off track!!!! Great post 😉

  2. Judy, thank you for your insights. Your piece made me think of Michael Pollen’s statement to the effect that, if your grandmother wouldn’t recognize it as food, don’t eat it! … What you say about processed food rings so true to me. About 5 years ago when my husband and I started to grow our own fruits and vegetables, we cut down our processed food intake significantly and replaced it with fruits and veggies from our farm. I think the change has made a tremendous difference in how I feel. We still have much to improve on, but I feel that cutting down the processed food was a big step in the right direction.

I am glad that you’re bloggin’ and am looking forward to the next post!

    • Jane, that is very inspiring. I too feel so much better after cleaning up my diet….thanks to RambleRill Farm!! 🙂
And yes, love the grandmother quote….so true. Thank you for your encouragement.
