Yard food. Sounds glamorous doesn’t it!
We had the pleasure of entertaining (and being entertained by) my nephew and his band this past Sunday. It was a gorgeous spring day so we enjoyed the pre-show meal outdoors.
I made a colorful salad with local fresh lettuce, spring onions, and radishes from RambleRill Farm. I added organic celery and oranges and then topped it with purple violets from my yard.
Quizzical and worried glances were exchanged when our friends noticed the dainty flowers in the salad.
After some reassurance, and then with youthful enthusiasm, one of the band members claimed he was eating yard food!
Violets are blooming everywhere.
While I hesitate to pick them because I love how they decorate my lawn, they are edible and nutritious.

Purple goodness!
Dont hesitate.
Check your yard for your salad fixins tonight!
And of course, a huge shoutout to Walker Lukens and the Side Arms! They are on tour. You won’t be sorry!

And how they do dress up a salad!! Don’t think I’ve ever eaten them though. Like to try.
