Go crazy with garlic! Put it in everything!
Read my previous post to refresh your memory on all the good reasons garlic should be a staple in your kitchen and an ingredient in your cooking.
“Let food be thy medicine, and medicine be thy food.”
Those are the wise words of the ancient Greek physician, Hippocrates. He is often called the father of Western medicine.
I agree, and I prefer to use food as medicine in most scenarios. At the very least that is where I start, with nourishing foods and herbs.
And so, here is a simple tea I brew when I feel a runny nose coming on or when it has already turned in to a stay at home cold. I drink it on a daily basis until I feel dramatic improvement.
Garlic Tea
4 cups of water 1-2 Tbsp of minced fresh garlic 2-3 Tbsp of freshly squeezed lemon 1-2 Tbsp of local honey Optional: a pinch of cayenne
Put the water and garlic in a small pot and simmer gently for 5-10 minutes. Add the lemon and honey. Stir. All of the ingredients can be adjusted to desired taste. This is a strong tea for many, but it can be sipped slowly throughout the day.
I often make this same tea with ginger instead of garlic during the colder months of the year.
Spring is upon us and for that, most of us are grateful! The change of season can often bring on a cold or stuffy nose, however. Try this tea as a safe and healthy boost.
A garlic tea toast to your health!

It sounds interesting–I have never had garlic tea. I think I would like it paired with a savory food like mini cheddar herb biscuits.
That sounds good, Minnilue!
I love garlic but not sure I can drink garlic tea. I need to be brave and try.
Yes, it can be strong. A bit easier if you are sick and really want to get better! Drink and feel like it is nourishing your body!
